2025 marks three years since we first appeared on the popular Channel 4 show Four in a Bed (Series 17: Episode 18), and what an unforgettable journey it has been! Being featured on the show was an incredible experience for us, and it allowed us to share the warmth, hospitality, and beauty of Distant Hills Guest House with a wider audience. Since then, we’ve welcomed more guests than ever and continued to build on the lessons we learned from that experience.

The Interview with Luxury BnB Magazine
Recently, we had the privilege of being featured on the popular Channel 4 show Four in a Bed, and it was an incredible experience we will always treasure. As part of the show, we hosted three other guest houses, sharing our home, the hospitality we offer, and our passion for the Scottish Highlands. But how did it all come about? And what was it like being part of the show? In 2022 sat down with Luxury B&B Magazine to discuss our Four in a Bed experience and what makes Distant Hills so special.
How Did You End Up on Four in a Bed?
For those unfamiliar with Four in a Bed, it’s a TV show where five different B&Bs participate in a friendly competition, staying at each other’s properties and scoring them on various aspects of their stay, including the rooms, service, and breakfast. Dani and I had never considered applying to the show until we were approached by the Four in a Bed team. They had seen our glowing reviews and were interested in showcasing our unique guest house. After some initial conversations, we decided to take the plunge and give it a go!
We felt it would be a fun way to showcase our guest house and the amazing experiences we offer, from our walking holidays to our hospitality. We were also excited to meet fellow B&B owners and learn from their experiences.
What Was It Like Being on the Show?
The whole experience was both exciting and a little nerve-wracking! It was our first time being on TV, so we weren’t sure what to expect. Being filmed while we hosted, cooked, and shared our story was a bit surreal, but it was also a fantastic way to highlight all the hard work we put into making Distant Hills such a welcoming place.
One of the best parts was getting to meet the other B&B owners. We all shared a love for hospitality and had a great time exchanging tips and stories. Despite the competitive nature of the show, we all bonded over our shared experiences as owners of small, independent businesses.
The feedback we received from the other owners and the public was overwhelmingly positive. We were particularly thrilled to see that our passion for providing a personal, welcoming experience shone through. We believe that what sets Distant Hills apart is the genuine care we have for our guests and the warmth of our hospitality, and it was gratifying to see that recognised on national TV.
What Was the Most Memorable Moment?
There were so many memorable moments, but one of the highlights was when we received the feedback from the other B&B owners. It was both humbling and affirming to hear that they appreciated the effort and attention to detail we put into our guest house. The fact that we won the show made it all the more special, and we were incredibly proud of the result.
Another unforgettable moment was when we watched the episode for the first time with our friends and family. It was surreal seeing our home on national television, but it was also a fantastic opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come since opening Distant Hills.
How Does This Experience Reflect What You Offer at Distant Hills?
Being on Four in a Bed allowed us to showcase everything that makes Distant Hills special: the comfortable, luxury accommodation, our beautiful location, and our commitment to offering exceptional hospitality. It was the perfect way to show how we go above and beyond to ensure our guests feel at home and get the most out of their stay in the Scottish Highlands.
In particular, we’ve always prided ourselves on creating a warm, welcoming environment for everyone who visits. Whether you’re joining us for a walking holiday or simply enjoying a relaxing stay in our luxury B&B, we aim to make every guest feel like part of the Distant Hills family.
What’s Next for Distant Hills?
Since our appearance on Four in a Bed, we’ve seen an increase in interest from both new and returning guests, and we couldn’t be more excited about the future. We’re always looking for ways to improve and evolve, from adding new walking routes to upgrading our guest rooms to offering even more unforgettable experiences.
In 2025, we will continue to offer our all-inclusive walking holidays, where guests can explore the stunning beauty of the Scottish Highlands with our expert guides, as well as to enjoy the comfort and hospitality of our guest house. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or new to walking holidays, we have a range of itineraries that cater to all levels of experience.
We are also planning to expand our facilities and improve our guest services, ensuring that every stay at Distant Hills is memorable. From introducing new local experiences to offering even more personal touches in our rooms, we are dedicated to making Distant Hills a home away from home for all of our guests.
